Blogging Blues

Why is blogging SO hard sometimes? I'm no Dooce or @Neilochka - nor would I want to be (what they & bloggers like them do is a full time job and frankly, I'm just not that clever y'all) - but I'd like to offer up something a tad more interesting or inspiring than just pictures of Dexy, or some sad sack whiny wah wah wah about how I miss my parents, or the occasional cryptic post about my single motherhood & dating travails, or my life altering experience/s at a PAX workshop.

Which brings me to the Skitch screen shot of my Twitter account page.

I know a LOT of people that don't "get" Twitter. But then I don't get their love for Facebook either, so I guess we're even. It's cool. To each their own right? For me though, Twitter is the perfect social media site to express myself on. I can go there whenever I want. Or not at all. And I totally don't feel like a bad slacker if I avoid it for a few hours, or GASP! a few days.

That's not the case with my blog however. I feel all kinds of bad if I avoid posting here, and I don't know why because this kind of writing isn't really my forté any more anyway (P.S. I used to love writing once; have kept journals since I was 9, majored in History and minor in English Lit and Communications at UofA, edited ginormous NIH/CDC research grant applications for my PhD/MD/MPH bosses at the Az Cancer Center and College of Medicine, and of course I adore the very craft of books/poems/plays, etc.).

So what the hell happened? Why do the short bursts of thought, aka streams of consciousness, that one can engage in on Twitter (no matter how lame the content by the way) work better for my mommy-addled brain?

I have all kinds of great ideas for posts. Well, maybe not all kinds, but some. Problem is, I can never retain the ideas long enough to get them from my brain to here, or to even maintain the energy required to get excited about them either. Poof! They're gone in a flash. Or I'm off to something else more pressing, like wiping Dexy's butt. Woohoo.

I have no idea where I'm going with this. I know, I talk too much. Guess I just wanted to share it with you. I need some kind of an outlet for creative expression. Peace and quiet would be nice too. And some colder fall-like weather. And maybe a pony. Ooooh, look! Something shiny. Wait. What?

I digress. I find myself longing for said creative outlet. Craving it. Will go nutso without it. I get stressed and all cranky-pantsed when I haven't had so much as a smidge of creative or intellectual or book-ish in my day-to-day. Just ask anyone who knows me. Especially Dexy's daddy. He's practically an expert on my supreme cranky-pantsness.

I used to draw/paint. Now I do photography (quite poorly btw - compared to some of you amazing bloggers out there in BloggerLand). I used to play music. Now I fawn over musicians and cool radio stations like KEXP. I used to read 3 to 4 books at a time, consuming them within a few hours, or at most, a few days. Now I read e-books on my iPhone Kindle app - in the dark, while my kid is sleeping. I go to art museums, book signings and the occasional concert - when I can manage the $12 - $15 an hour babysitting fees (yes, you read that right you non-single parents you!). I check out other(better) bloggers from the comfort of my couch or home office.

And of course, I tweet. Like a mad woman.

What can I say? It works for me.

So, I hope you'll keep coming here. All 40 (41)* of you. Or, you could cruise on over to Twitter and say howdy. You'll certainly have a better chance of catching me in real time. Goodness knows, I'm a lot more succinct there. I have to be. It's 140 characters (or less). Or else.

--------------------------

*Psssst. I have over 2,000 followers on Twitter & more than 34,000 tweets. See? I'm WAY more prolific there. Or I work harder on it there, or something.

Irritation with The Internets (III)

Twitter has been down a LOT lately. I am almost afraid to bother logging in most days, b/c even if it works initially, within minutes it's isn't again. Meh. And now BrightKite is all wonky. I can't be on MySpace for more than 5 seconds before I start dreaming of a self-imposed axe wound to the head (mine). Facebook just irritates me b/c no matter how hard I try, I just don't get it.

Anyway, that's all for now. Just needed to vent. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming!

Cheery bye,

Me

twitter busted

Well, I suppose it was inevitable.

Now that twitter is "popular", there's more people, and with more people come more problems, hence it seems to be down at least once a day, EVERY day. I was late to the twitter game (only joined about 3 months ago) but it's like serious crack to me. And now that I'm a junkie twitter crack whore, I need my fix whenever I want my fix, and damnit I do NOT want my dope all cut up w/ baby aspirin or other "broken" bits. Ya know?

And FWIW, I would totally pay to have my twitter account (that's how addicted I am), IF and only if they actually had the thing up and running all day, like it used to be. Of course, with pay accounts comes Super Elitism Attitude; i.e. what would they give me if I paid $15-$20 a year for twitter? More bandwidth, more archive capacity, more profile gadgets? How would they designate pay accounts so our special-ness is very clear to those don't pay? See where I'm going with this?

Anyway...

Since I can't send out my usual 9000 tweets today, I'll post some of my Daily Fun here instead. Which is probably what I should be doing anyway, instead of obsessing about an addictive little application that never works anymore.

My Day (so far), in a nutshell:

Woke early (5am) & chilled in bed sending tweets about Hot Political Issues until almost 7am... Let the Evil Toto dog outside to potty, even though she'd already gone #1 and #2 in the kitchen - as she has done every single day since I brought her home from the boarding kennel last Thursday... Started a pot of coffee... Took a shower... Baby girl woke up at 8am (way late for her, she must be entering a growth spurt)... Got her out of bed & changed her diaper, dressed her, made breakfast for her, etc. ... While she was watching Sesame Street, I got dressed too... Drove to her Pediatrician where I thought she had a 9:30am appointment... Turns out her it's NEXT week... Huh. How did I f**k that up, I wonder?... Took Dex to school... Stopped at Chevron to gas up my Subaru (13 gallons = $54)... Went to USPS to pick up mail that I had on "Vacation Hold"... Drove home... Arrived to discover incontinent dog had AGAIN gone potty all over the kitchen floor... Made instant decision to give her "The Gas Pipe"... Took her to the ASPCA instead as an "Owner Relinquish"... Yes, it's true I have finally given my parents dog away (I'm sure someone will adopt her, so don't judge me man!)... Went to Fusion Sushi on Palo Verde & Spring for lunch but I can't really recommend them, sorry... Came home to an empty & dog-poop-free house (exhale)... Grabbed bottle of cold water from fridge ... Sat down at my desk, dropped iPhone into charger, turned on the iMac...

And here I am.

Whew!

I'm sure I've forgotten tons of other stuff, but this will have to suffice until I can get back on twitter. Will be time to go get the baby girl from school soon, would like to check up on my email & other computer related stuff before I leave again.

Hope y'all are having a good day!

Cheerios,

C ~

Social networking, micro-blogging, w00t!

Okay, I don't know how the folks at MySpace can be so unaware of the revolution going on right now. And I don't just mean the people USING it, I mean the people running the company. Their site has ALWAYS sucked (& I've been on it a long time, so I know of what I speak) but blatantly copying FB & then totally missing the boat on making it WORK?

Tom? You suck.

I stay away from such convoluted & cumbersome sites more & more. They don't work well on mobile platforms. They are tired. They are so 2003.

I've become increasingly infatuated w/ sites like twitter, FriendFeed, del.icio.us, Blogger of course, goodreads, twhirl, Flickr, etc. I'm sure I'm even a little behind finding all this new "wonder" on the web, but who cares? It's fun & I'm digging it.

See, the cool thing is that I can tweet & still have a semblance of life. Please note, I said semblance. I realize that it would be far better to go outside and play in the Real World.

So yes, it sucks me in. But unlike MySpace I don't spend hours flitting about reading inane crap written by 12 year olds. Nor am I stuck at a desktop keyboard. I can take twitter with me anywhere I go. Yay iPhone, yay m.twitter.

Even better? Most of the people I follow on twitter actually know how to spell & write well. They are funny too. It's like a breath of fresh, clean, beautiful, pre-Reagan era air.

Can I get an amen? Amen!

The end. It's past my bed time. Must retire to my usual night of sleeplessness, tossing & turning. Cheery bye.
