Happy 4th of July!

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness... That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." (The Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776)


Lest we forget what today is really all about... Freedom from tyranny. Life. Liberty. Happiness. Equality. Fair representation. All the good & righteous stuff the Founding Fathers wanted for our fledgling nation.

Let's also try to remember that there are THOUSANDS of young men and women fighting for those very tenets overseas right now, men and women that can't be with their families, and whose families are really missing them something awful, especially on days like today. There are also many families who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom/s. Please don't forget them today, okay?

Here's wishing you and yours a happy Independence Day! I hope you're enjoying a warm summer afternoon BBQ with all the people you love. Dexy and I are going to go stuff ourselves silly on grilled meat, potato salad, frosty beverages, etc. at my friend Susan & Steve's house. No, it's not officially summer in Seattle yet. Apparently that doesn't actually happen (historically) until July 5th. But 80-degree days will be here by Tuesday, and meanwhile, I think I see a little, teeny tiny bit of the sun peeking out behind those clouds.

Fall Out

Ever had a falling out with someone (neighbor, friend, family member, lover, business associate, etc.) and then find yourself obsessing wondering how the f*ck you'll ever be able to extricate yourself from it? Yet with each apology, or peace offering, you end up sticking your foot even deeper into the proverbial sh*t?

Ever wonder how you be able to say "Hi. How are ya?" with a genuine smile if you happen to run into them on the street, in a cafe, or at the grocery store? Will the dreadful sick-to-my-stomach-I'm-surely-going-to-retch-now feeling that you might see them out & about ever cease? Will there come a point when just hearing about them in passing from a mutual friend or family member stops making you feel like your heart has been violently ripped out of your chest (for the umpteenth time)?

I'm just curious. Because this has kinda sucked enough already.

Hallmark Holidays Make Me Cuckoo Crazy

I have been feeling profoundly sad the past 2 days or so - in waves mostly, so not all the time (which is a good thing) - but I haven't been able to put my finger on it.

Sometimes, I really am dumber than a box of rocks (*slaps forehead*)

G-d knows I can't really articulate any of it right now. Suffice to say, Mother's Day is almost upon me. Another stupid & contrived greeting card "holiday" that means jack unless you actually have someone to celebrate it with.

Big surprise, I'm missing my folks. And I'm wishing there was someone in my life that would put their arms around me to walk me through the next few days. Or better yet, how about the rest of my life? Yeah. That would be teh awesome. What more can I say, that I haven't already said here (or on twitter) a million+ times?

Nothing.

It is what it is. And I'm tired of talking about the same old sh*t. All I can do is stay busy w/ my house remodeling project, dig my hands & feet into the soft wet earth of my new life here in Seattle, and just put one foot in front of the other.

Happy Mother's Day to all my mamas out there (dead or alive). This crabby old broad is sending you lots of love and about a zillion ex's & oh's. Errr, I mean xoxo's.

Family. WTF Is That?

I'd really love nothing more than to rant myself silly on this here little old blog of mine about just how lame some of my family members are. But sadly, I don't feel the liberty to do so without certain eyes/ears making note of my observations & then having to listen to some half-baked argument about why they aren't even 1/2 as lame as I think they are. Because, let's face it... the truth is that they don't think they're lame at all. They think they're Cool and Smart and Oh So Much Better Than Me.

But they're wrong.
